Money Donations

All money which is donated to us is used directly to support the education of poor local children - nothing is skimmed off to meet any administrative or other costs.

We can provide this assurance because we are a small organisation with minimal costs. Sosua Kids is run entirely by unpaid volunteers.  We have no office or other premises to maintain.  Members mostly meet any day-to-day costs from their own pockets.  Other unavoidable costs are either paid for us by supporters or are funded from income gained from fund-raising events  which we ourselves have organised.  All our fund-raising events cover their own costs, either from sponsorship (money given specifically to support the event) or from money raised at the event itself.

School uniforms are provided by issuing vouchers which can only be used at a local department store for the purchase of school uniform itemsThis gives added assurance that your money is only used for its intended purpose.

All of this means that if you donate 1,500 pesos (currently the equivalent of 40 US Dollars, 28 Euros or 25 UK Pounds), which is the normal cost of a uniform and basic supplies, you will know that you have enabled us to put one more child in school for a year.

Donations of Supplies

When we receive appropriate supplies of sufficient quality (i.e. new or "as new") we save these up and distribute them to children at the start of the school year in August.  "Appropriate supplies" includes backpacks and things that the child is likely to need in the classroom (pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners and erazers, exercise books, basic calculators, maths sets etc.).

We do not seek any other types of non-monetary donations.  However, when we do receive items not suitable for children to use at school, we will try to ensure that they are put to best use to help poor young people in the Sosua area.  This may, at our discretion, include selling or using them as prizes at one of our fund-raising events or passing them on to some other person or organisation working with the poor people in this area.
