This page provides information about future and recent events to raise funds for Sosua Kids. These are mainly in Sosúa. Information about fund-raising events in other parts of the world will also be included if their organisers wish.

 Forthcoming Events

WIN 7 NIGHTS ACCOMODATION IN A LUXURY 3-BEDROOM VILLA located in Residencial Hispaniola, Sosua and help support Sosua Kids!  Raffle Tickets cost 100 pesos (US$3) each or 500 pesos (US$15) for a book of six. They can be purchased at the following locations in central Sosua:  Beecher's Rock'n Blues Bar, The Checkpoint Bar, Donovan's Reef, The Jolly Roger, The Book Nook and DR Uncovered. All funds raised from ticket sales will go to Sosua Kids 

The winner will be anounced at the formal Grand Opening of Beecher's on 24 April 2010.

Note:  We regret that we cannot accept any further payments for raffle tickets via Paypal since this contravenes Paypal policy.  If you are unable to purchase tickets in person in Sosúa please use our contact page to email us for  information on how to obtain and pay for tickets.

 

Sosua Kids is planning a series of DINING NIGHTS for supporters.  These will give everyone a chance to meet old friends and new people over a meal in a local restaurant.  You will pay normal restaurant prices but will also have the opportunity to take part in a raffle which will raise money to buy school uniforms for poor local children.  The events will be open to everybody, but numbers may be limited by the capacity of the restaurant concerned so places will be allocated each time on a first-come-first-served basis.  Further information will be posted later.  Meanwhile, if you are interested, it would be very helpful if you could let us know by sending an email to Dining@sosuakids.com.

 

The weekly Thursday afternoon game of MEXICAN TRAIN DOMINOES, which raises money for Sosua Kids , is now held at The Hideaway Bar in Calle Pedro Clisante, Sosúa, starting at 2.00pm.  Players pay a fee of 100 pesos, all of which goes to Sosua Kids.  We raise enough money each month to fund a school uniform and supplies for one further poor local child, enabling him or her to attend school and receive an education.  Please come along, enjoy the game and help Sosua Kids!

Recent Events

A "Pineapple Night" fundraising evening  at The Checkpoint Bar on 22 January 2010, generously hosted by our longstanding supporters Jackie and Alan from Southampton, UK, raised over 8,000 pesos for Sosua Kids, more than enough to pay for five childrens' uniforms and supplies).  Money was raised by the sale of raffle tickets and of straws which gave the opportunity to sip the "juice" from a pineapple (which tasted rather stronger than normal pineapple juice!).  The raffle prizes were a carrot cake, donated  by The Checkpoint, two lovely teddy bears (from the prestigious London store Harrods)  brought in by Jackie and Alan, and a 50% share of the takings from the sales.  The winner of the takings generously donated her prize to Sosua Kids.

Thank you to Jackie and Alan, to The Checkpoint and to everybody who helped us by participating in this event!

The formal opening of Donovan's Reef Bar (situated in Beachway Plaza, Sosua) on 26 December was kindly organised by the owners as a fund-raising event for Sosua Kids.  Food was provided to guests free of charge but they were invited to make a contribtion to our charity.  Thank you to the owners, who generously provided an excellent buffet, and to all those guests who together contributed over 6,000 pesos to Sosua Kids!  A special thankyou also to George, the DJ for the evening, who additionally donated his fee of 2,000 pesos!

  A good time was had by all!
